The Guild of writers and directors of documentaries and news reports (Guilde des auteurs réalisateurs de reportages et de documentaires, Garrd) has obtained a first "victory" in its fight so that its members can obtain press cards, "systematically" refused by the CCIJP to documentary filmmakers and news reporters, said the union on Wednesday, December 7.
Thanks to the support of Garrd, the higher commission of the CCIJP has in fact just recognized the illegality of the decision of the CCIJP in refusing the press card to the director Hélène Lam Trong who will be issued one, the union stated. Composed of magistrates, the high commission was called concerning the complaints brought against the decisions rendered by the plenary committee.
In the name of freedom of information, the Garrd called on the high commission "to apply the jurisprudence of the Constitutional Council which states that access to the profession of journalist must be free," it specified. That "directors of documentaries and news reports be protected, like journalists, under the investigations that they conduct in the field" is one of the fights led by the Garrd.
