The public cinema Le Méliès passed the milestone of 2 million viewers on December 7, according to a press release published on Monday, December 12 by the city of Montreuil and Est Ensemble. A threshold reached seven years after the opening of the six projection rooms of this establishment in the Paris region, in 2015.
"In this month of December, we passed, at the same time, the milestone of 2 million admissions and we reached 300,000 admissions for the year 2022 alone," Stéphane Goudet, artistic director of Méliès stated
.
While French cinemas have lost nearly a third of their annual attendance, Méliès theaters "only lost 7%."
A "very good performance" which must be compared to "very low prices authorized by the status of public cinema (from 3.50 to 6 euros)." But also of "the offensive policy of animations which allows the reception and the organization of festivals, meetings and debates." More than 180 film crews were welcomed in 2022.
