Actor Adama Niane died at the age of 56, director Olivier Abbou announced on Sunday, January 29, without further details as to the circumstances of his death. He had notably played in the series PJ, Plus belle la vie, Sam, Maroni and Lupin. In the cinema, he played the serial killer Guy Georges in L'Affaire SK1 by Frédéric Tellier, in 2014. He also held a role in 35 Rhums by Claire Denis, Perdrix by Erwan Le Duc or Furie by Olivier Abbou. At the theater, he had played in plays by Bernard-Marie Koltès, Jean-Luc Lagarce and Laurent Gaudé.

“It is with great sadness that I have just learned of the death of Adama Niane, with whom I have the chance to work on the 2 seasons of Maroni and Furie. We have not left each other for four years, sharing intense human and artistic adventures at the end of the world, in Guyana, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and even in Lille (that's saying something!)," wrote the director Olivier Abbou on his Instagram account, describing a man “committed, lit, whole, talented, powerful. He was my hero, a friend, an accomplice."

Omar Sy hailed, on Twitter, "a huge actor alongside whom I had the chance and the pleasure of playing" in Lupin, "a man of rare benevolence."
