
Tunisian actor Mohamed Dhrif, who won several awards for his role in the film Dear Son, died on Sunday, February 5 at the age of 72, the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the next day.
Mohamed Dhrif, who first made a name for himself in Tunisia on television in the 1980s, notably in the detective series Ebhath Maana, played in several Tunisian films including Man of Ashes by Nouri Bouzid in 1986, and played masterfully the father in Weldi (Dear Son) by Mohamed Ben Attia in 2018. For this role of a father of the Tunisian middle class whose only son disappears to join the jihad in Syria, the actor had received the prize for best actor at the El Gouna Festival in Egypt and at the Tarifa African Film Festival in Spain. He had obtained a similar consecration from the Arab Cinema Center on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
Mohamed Dhrif also left his mark on national radio, notably Radio Monastir where he had gained experience in writing radio plays.
