Orange has signed a distribution agreement with satellite operator OneWeb with the aim of improving and extending global connectivity, the group announced on Wednesday 8 March. As a reminder, OneWeb and Eutelsat signed a merger agreement at the end of 2022. This merger project aims to position the whole in the high-speed space internet sector (Satellifacts, November 15).

The Orange and OneWeb partnership will enrich the French operator's global connectivity, particularly in rural and isolated areas of Europe, Latin America and Africa. Because the operator will be able to provide an offer integrating OneWeb's LEO (Low Earth Orbit) solution to telecom operators and businesses in different regions of the world. This agreement will also "strengthen Orange's leading position in the backhaul market in hard-to-reach areas such as certain African countries", according to a press release.

The quality of service and low latency possible via OneWeb technology will also make it possible to offer new applications and new OTT services. The integration of OneWeb services will also improve the Orange Business offer.
