British actor Ray Stevenson died on Sunday May 21, 4 days before his 59th birthday, his agent told The Hollywood Reporter. He had been hospitalized on the Italian island of Ischia where he was filming the feature film Cassino on Ischia by Frank Ciota, according to Italian daily La Repubblica.
Ray Stevenson made his a name to the public notably through the series Rome (HBO, BBC), the two seasons of which retrace the history of ancient Rome through the daily life of two legionnaires, Titus Pullo (Ray Stevenson) and Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd). The actor has also been seen in the Dexter and Black Sails series.
In the cinema, Ray Stevenson has notably played in the Marvel films Punisher: War Zone, directed by Lexi Alexander, and Thor, by Kenneth Branagh, in The Vampire's Assistant by Paul Weitz, and Very Bad Cops by Adam McKay. He also appeared in Paul WS Anderson's The Three Musketeers, and recently starred in Scott Buxton's 2023 Oscar-winning RRR (Best Original Song).
