
Channel Al Jazeera English (AJE), headquartered in Doha, is to close its live streaming center in London's famous The Shard skyscraper and relocate affected teams to Qatar, according to reports from the Guardian.. This decision was announced via an email to the staff by the director of the channel, Giles Trendle, specifies the British daily. It could involve the loss of nearly 40 jobs in the UK. The production of talk shows and documentaries should however remain in London. In addition, the Shard's newsroom would remain open.
Founded seventeen years ago, Al Jazeera English aimed to produce and broadcast news live from its offices in Washington DC, London, Kuala Lumpur and Doha. It has already closed its offices in Malaysia and the United States. All channel operations would eventually be centralized in Qatar.
