Former BBC journalist Lisa Brinkworth, who filed a complaint in September 2020 for sexual assault against Gérald Marie, former European manager of the Elite modeling agency, requested the appointment of an investigating judge via a new complaint, it was reported on Tuesday, January 17 from a source close to the file.
She denounced a sexual assault in October 1998 in a Milanese club, during the filming of a documentary. Her complaint was accompanied by reports from three former models, including a minor at the time, accusing the former leader of rape in Paris between 1980 and 1990. The Paris prosecutor's office had opened an investigation for "rape and sexual assault" on adults and minors, entrusted to the brigade for the protection of minors ( brigade de protection des mineurs, BPM). Since then, no non-prescribed victim has been identified by investigators, according to a source familiar with the matter.
On January 5, Lisa Brinkworth's lawyers filed a civil suit. They question instructions given by the BBC and an agreement made at the time between the British public channel and Elite after a defamation complaint made by the agency. Following these instructions, the journalist was forbidden to file a complaint, notably because she did not have access to the images that would prove her attack.
Today, “the BBC continues to refuse to transmit” these images to Lisa Brinkworth, a “behavior which did not allow [her] to prosecute Mr. Marie until 2020, when the BBC gave access to these images to an independent journalist," detailed the complaint.
