The "Believe in Cinema" Prize (prix "Croire au cinéma") has unveiled its jury and its selection of feature films for the 2023 edition, the Signis-Cinéma association, which created this distinction in 2021, announced on Tuesday, January 24.
Signis-Cinéma, a member of the Federation of Catholic Media, supports and develops the cinema activities of Signis (world Catholic association for communication) in France and participates, for example, in the organization of the ecumenical jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival, born in 1974.
The "Believe in Cinema" Prize rewards each year "a film for the human or spiritual values that it illustrates. It opens up dialogue on the concerns of our contemporaries and works for peace, justice or forgiveness," the association described.
The jury is chaired by Frédéric Rossignol, Director of Development and Distribution of the CFRT (Le Jour du Seigneur) and is made up of Nathalie Besançon, actress, Bruno Bouvet, Head of Service at La Croix L'Hebdo, Dominique Coatanea, theologian and teacher-researcher and Naël Marandin, director of the 2022 winning film, La Terre des Hommes.
Eight films were selected: My Favorite War by Ilze Burkovska Jacobsen, The Night of the 12th by Dominik Moll, The Velvet Queen by Vincent Munier and Marie Amiguet, Plan 75 by Chie Hayakawa, Commitment Hasan by Semih Kaplanoğlu, Maixabel by Iciar Bollain, Remain a little by Gad Elmaleh and Another world by Stéphane Brizé.
The "Believe in Cinema" prize will be announced on Tuesday, January 31 and awarded in March at the Les 7 Parnassiens cinema in Paris, in the presence of the film crew.
