The documentary series Moochie (6 x 52') will be scheduled for Wednesday, January 25 and Thursday January 26 at 9 p.m., indicated Canal+. Co-produced by Geko Films (Grégoire Debailly) and Empreinte Digitale (Raphaël Rocher, Benjamin Rocher), this true crime series, in the tradition of Soupçons by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, is taken from a news story that occurred in Florida, in 2014, at the heart of one of the most powerful families in America.
For five years, director Samuel Collardey (Le Bureau des légendes, L’Apprenti, Tempête) followed the investigation, then the trial, and accompanied the various protagonists in the case. The Be tv channels in Belgium and the RTS in Switzerland are also engaged in event documentaries. A co-production agreement has also been signed with ABC News for “exclusive broadcasting rights in the United States,” its distributor, Terranoa, a subsidiary of Gedeon Media Group, announced last May.
Dayonte Resiles, nicknamed Moochie, a 20-year-old African-American, is accused of the murder of Jill Halliburton, niece and wealthy heiress of an American oil giant. While everything seems to implicate Justin, Jill's only son, the police arrest Moochie, without any violent past or apparent motive. Despite the fragility of the case and the disbelief of the black community, Moochie is incarcerated and the prosecutor demands the death penalty.
