The border collie Messi won the Palm Dog on Friday May 26 for his performance as Snoop in the film Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet, presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Note this year, two other prizes were awarded to dogs: a grand prize for Chaplin in The Dead Leaves by Aki Kaurismäki as well as the "incredible performance prize", awarded to Sultan, the staffordshire bull terrier in Vincent doit mourir by Stephan Castang.

Ken Loach was also awarded a honorary grand prize for his entire career, with a special mention for his film The Old Oak, in competition at Cannes, where a dog named Marra plays "a key role ".

Created by Anglo-Saxon film critics, the Palm Dog has been awarded every year at Cannes since 2001. It rewards the best canine interpretation in a film from the Official Selection, whether real or in an animated film.
