Dwayne Johnson, who lent his voice to the character of Maui in the animated film Moana, announced Monday April 3 that a remake in live action was in preparation at Disney, in a video on social media. “The Rock” will reprise his role as a demigod, and will also serve as co-producer on the film.
This new film joins the long list of Disney classics adapted in live action, from Beauty and the Beast to Aladdin via The Little Mermaid – which will be released in France on May 24 – or even Hercules, Snow White or Bambi.
Released in 2016, Moana generated nearly $644 million in revenue. In France, it had recorded nearly 5.67 million admissions.
