European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity: 1st European Discoverability Forum on March 9

The first European Discoverability Forum will be held on Thursday March 9 at the European Parliament from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (CEDC) reported on Wednesday March 1. From Canada, the term “discoverability” refers more specifically to the online availability of a work and its ability to be identified among a vast set of other content, they note.
This unique event is organized on the initiative of the CEDC with the support of MEPs Ibán Garcia del Blanco, Alexis Georgoulis and Niklas Nienass, members of the Friendship Group of Culture Creators. It will bring together the group of European regulators of audiovisual media services (Erga), Spotify and the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers for Music (Gesac), the European Visual Artists for the visual arts, the European Theater Convention for the live performance, a metadata researcher for books and the European Commission (DG Connect and EAC), in order to build together a first European approach to discoverability. The objective will also be to “see how discoverability impacts each sector differently through the role that algorithms play on the different distribution platforms”, specify the ECCD.
