European Film Academy: a European Achievement in World Cinema award for Elia Suleiman

Palestinian director Elia Suleiman will receive a European Achievement in World Cinema award at the European Film Awards on December 10 in Reykjavík, Iceland, the European Film Academy announced on Wednesday (December 7). He is the first Palestinian director to receive this distinction, awarded since 1997.

His first film, Chronique d’une disparition, won the prize for best first film at the Venice Film Festival in 1996. The director then distinguished himself with Intervention divine, jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. He then returned to competition on the Croisette in 2009 with Le temps qu'il reste, then in 2019 with It Must Be Heaven, which received a special mention.
