Eurosport: Boris Becker, released from prison, back as a TV consultant for the Australian Open

A month after his release from prison, Boris Becker will return as a consultant to Eurosport from the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the channel announced on Tuesday, January 3. Sentenced at the end of April by English justice to two and a half years in prison for financial offences, the former world number 1 was released on December 15 after 8 months of detention and was expelled from the United Kingdom.

"Since 2017, Boris has been an integral part of tennis broadcasts on Eurosport," said Jochen Gundel, one of the managers of the German subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, the channel's parent company. His lawyer explained that Boris Becker, now 55, had "served his sentence" and was "not subject to any criminal restrictions in Germany."

Winner of six Grand Slam tournaments in his career (Wimbledon in 1985, 1986 and 1989, the US Open in 1989 and the Australian Open in 1991 and 1996), Boris Becker, who reached first place in the world ranking in 1991, will appear on Eurosport every day around 8.45 a.m. (French time) and after the night sessions of the Australian Open (January 16 to 29).
