
Former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon, known on stage as Johnny Rotten, is in the running to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in May, Irish broadcaster RTE announced on Monday (January 9th). The singer's current band, Public Image Ltd, is among six representatives considered to represent Ireland in this year's singing competition in Liverpool, England, on behalf of Ukraine, 2022 winner, due to the war (Satellifacts, October 7).
The group, formed after the separation of the Sex Pistols in 1978, will know its fate at the end of a televised evening in February where it will perform against the other candidates, including the Irish group Wild Youth. John Lyndon, 66, was born in London to Irish parents. Public Image Ltd have announced they will perform a moving tribute written by John Lydon to his wife Nora, who has Alzheimer's. The semi-finals will take place on May 9 and 11, followed by the final on May 13.
