The BBC series Fawlty Towers, which tells the hectic daily life of the manager of a small hotel, will reopen its doors. British comedian John Cleese (Monty Python), 83, will once again don the costume of neurotic and misanthropic hotelier Basil Fawlty, in a sequel to the cult 1970s series, the company announced on Tuesday, February 7. American production Castle Rock Entertainment, directed by comedian and director Rob Reiner, Matthew George, Michele Reiner and Derrick Rossi.
Co-written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, Fawlty Towers, which only had two seasons broadcast on BBC 2 in 1975 and 1979, was voted the best sitcom of all time in 2019 by Radio Times Magazine. The series was broadcast in France in 1985 under the name L'Hôtel en Folie.
The sequel, written by John Cleese, will follow Basil Fawlty's misadventures in the modern world, running a boutique hotel alongside his daughter, whom he has just discovered exists, according to Castle Rock Entertainment. He will star alongside his own daughter Camilla Cleese.
