The InfoMigrants editorial staff of France 24 produced Un amour en enfer, an animated testimony which will be put online on Friday, January 13 and broadcast on the air the next day, it was announced on Thursday, January 5. This 24-minute format is based on testimonies received by the editorial staff of InfoMigrants, with which France 24 journalist Adel Gastel was associated, as director of the cartoon.
France 24 specified to Satellifacts that it is an "in-house production." The editors did not use an outside production company to make this documentary, and say they are "open" to making any hybrid format documentary, including other animated testimonies to come.
This current affairs cartoon – otherwise known as "news sketching" – follows the journey of Muhamad, a young Somali who left his country to reach Europe, via Libya. It discusses the journey of exile of this 25-year-old man, "his ordeal, his love and his escape," and returns, more broadly, to the situation of migrants still detained in Libya.
The broadcast of Un amour en enfer is part of a special issue of the program Reporters, le doc, scheduled on Saturday at 9 p.m. on France 24. It will be followed by a debate in the presence of guests. The program will also be broadcast on the air in English, Arabic and Spanish.
This is not the first time that France 24 has offered such an animated format: the editorial staff of InfoMigrants produced, in 2019, Mariam, esclave sexuelle, relating the testimony of a 16-year-old Ivorian girl kidnapped and raped for several months by a Libyan man.
