Harvey Weinstein: the announcement of the sentence of the former producer postponed to February 23
The announcement of the sentence of Harvey Weinstein, found guilty of rape and sexual assault at the end of his trial in Los Angeles, has been postponed to February 23, announced the judge, Lisa Lench on Monday, January 9. The former film producer (Pulp Fiction, etc.), who wishes to appeal this conviction, faces up to eighteen years in prison after being found guilty in December of rape and two sexual assaults on a model in 2013.
The defense of Harvey Weinstein, 70, must present its arguments to demand a new trial at the next hearing on February 23. If his appeal request is rejected, the sentence will be pronounced the same day, explained the judge. The former producer is already serving a twenty-three-year prison sentence, after his conviction in New York in 2020 for similar crimes.
After an initial refusal by the justice system, the New York Supreme Court finally authorized in August an appeal of this conviction, which had been a great victory for the #MeToo movement, a global phenomenon of liberation of women's speech on sexism and sexual violence.
