American television host Jerry Springer, known for his controversial broadcasts peppered with swear words, vulgarities and physical altercations, died at the age of 79, several Anglo-Saxon media reported on Thursday April 27. Jerry Springer, who also entered politics and served as mayor of Cincinnati in 1977, died peacefully in Chicago after “a short illness,” TMZ reported, citing a family source.
Jerry Springer had hosted The Jerry Springer Show for almost thirty years. Launched in September 1991 on NBCUniversal then The CW, and stopped in 2018, this program had become cult, a symbol of American “trash TV”. The show was initially a classic talk show, focused on social issues and American political life. After a few years, to improve audiences, Jerry Springer had radically changed the tone of his program, switching to the quest for the spectacular. By the late 1990s, the show had the highest daytime viewership, ahead of Oprah, Oprah Winfrey's talk show.
