To everyone's surprise, actress Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones, one of the leading characters of Sex and the City, will make a (very brief) appearance in And Just Like That, the sequel to the cult HBO series. Absent from the first season, she will make a cameo in the last episode of the second, according to Variety.
Kim Cattrall played the flamboyant Samantha Jones, one of the four heroines in the six seasons of the original series and the two films that followed. She marked many spectators around the world with her glamour, her freedom of speech and her unbridled sex life. Despite their perfect on-screen bond, the tensions between Kim Cattrall and another star of the series, Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), are no secret. According to Variety, Kim Cattrall filmed her short scene in New York in March without seeing the other actresses or showrunner Michael Patrick King. She has in the past said publicly that she did not want to participate in a third film based on the series because of the scenario and the development of her character. The feature film ultimately did not see the light of day.
In season one of And Just Like That, Samantha Jones was mentioned but only appeared through a text message exchange from London, where the character now lives. The actress later posted a screenshot of the Variety article announcing her appearance. Season 2 of And Just Like That is set to premiere June 22 in the United States. The scene with Kim Cattrall will air in August.
