Star Wars Celebration 2023

Three new Star Wars films were announced by Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm (Disney), on Friday April 7 at Star Wars Celebration Europe in London. In the first feature, which will be directed by Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) from a script by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), Daisy Ridley will reunite with her character Rey, heroine of the latest trilogy. The plot will take place fifteen years after Episode IX, and will revolve around the reconstruction of the Jedi Order.

Oscar winner twice for short documentaries denouncing violence against women, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will become the first woman at the helm of a film from the legendary franchise, since its creation by George Lucas in 1977. This status was to go to the director from Wonder Woman 1984, Patty Jenkins, but her Rogue Squadron film, announced in 2020 for 2023 by Disney, seems to have been shelved.

The second film will be directed by James Mangold (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Logan) and will tell the story of the first Jedi. Finally, the third feature will be directed by Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian) and will focus on the New Republic, with ties to The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett series.

If no new series has been announced, fans have been able to discover the first images of Ahsoka, expected in August on the platform, of Skeleton Crew, with Jude Law, present in London, of The Acolyte or even of the season 2 of Andor.
