Some 250,000 euros were collected to help Ukraine during an auction of objects sold by cinema celebrities and organized by the director Michel Hazanavicius, Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska's foundation announced on Tuesday, January 10. Organized at Artcurial, this sale offered a vanity case by Catherine Deneuve, the watch worn by Jean Dujardin in OSS 117 and a Daft Punk helmet. Tom Hanks donated a typewriter from his personal collection and Natalie Portman donated some posters.
In total, around fifty lots were put up for sale, including the Cesar for best director awarded to Jacques Audiard in 2010 for his film A prophet and the Cesar awarded to Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist in 2012. Half of the sum collected was paid to UNITED24, a fundraising platform set up by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and the other to the foundation of First Lady Olena Zelenska. Part of this sum will go to the hospital of Izioum (east), partially destroyed by the Russians.
