The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, announced on Tuesday, February 7 the split of the "Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport" or "DCMS" which he had entrusted to Michelle Donelan last September, when she was appointed to 10 Downing Street.
This reorganization sees this ministry lose responsibility for digital and regain its previous title of “Department for Culture, Media & Sport.” In this new configuration, Lucy Frazer succeeds Michelle Donelan as Secretary of State in charge of Culture, Media and Sport. A member of the Conservative Party, the latter had been Financial Secretary to the Treasury from 2021 to 2022 in Boris Johnson's second government.
Michelle Donelan is appointed Secretary of State in charge of Science and Technology, and takes on Digital in this new ministry. Michelle Donelan had recommended not to proceed with the plan to privatize Channel 4, believing that there were “better ways of ensuring the sustainability of Channel 4 and that of independent production" (Satellifacts, 4 January).
