Warner Bros. Discovery: series project based on the “Harry Potter” universe
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is close to closing a deal for a new TV series based on the Harry Potter universe for broadcast on HBO Max, according to two sources familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg on Tuesday (April 4). Each season of this series would be based on one of British novelist JK Rowling 's seven books. The author would be involved "in the series to ensure that it remains faithful" to its spirit but would not be intended to be the main creator, it is specified.
At the beginning of the week, Pierre Branco, general manager of WBD France, indicated that the American studio, which produced the eight films around Harry Potter – a work for which it holds the rights – and a video game, had “projects to develop other programs ” based on this universe (Satellifacts, April 3).
In January 2021, The Hollywood Reporter already reported on discussions organized by HBO Max with screenwriters with a view to developing a series around the Harry Potter franchise (Satellifacts, January 25).
The project is intended for the HBO Max platform called to merge with discovery+. It will be launched during the spring in the United States, then rolled out in Europe in 2024.
