Several feature films around the Lord of the Rings are in preparation, announced Thursday February 23 Warner Bros., which had previously produced the successful Peter Jackson trilogy as well as The Hobbit. The head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, announced, during a conference call with investors, the signing of an agreement to produce several films around the masterpiece of JRR Tolkien.
" The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest franchises of all time, we can't wait," he said. If no director is currently officially attached to the project, Peter Jackson said in a press release that he was "kept informed at all stages" of production. No details were given on the content of the films or the schedule for their release.
Meanwhile, Prime Video broadcast for its part in 2022 the first season (out of five expected) of a series also adapted from the world of Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema announced in June 2021 their collaboration around an original animated feature film on the Lord of the Rings universe, entitled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, directed by Kenji Kamiyama (the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series). It will be a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, which will revolve around Helm's Deep and the mythical King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, 250 years before the events of the trilogy.
After the huge critical and popular triumph of Peter Jackson's films in the early 2000s, The Hobbit trilogy was also a box office hit, despite lukewarm reviews.
