Why Not Productions: filming of "Emilia Pérez" by Jacques Audiard from spring 2023

Filming of the musical Emilia Pérez directed by Jacques Audiard will take place in the Paris region in the spring-summer of 2023, according to a casting announcement published by Agenda Mexicana Francia on Tuesday, January 17. "To recreate a Mexican city in the studio," the feature film team is currently looking for Mexican or South American dancers, singers and extras.

The film is produced by Why Not Productions (Pascal Caucheteux and Grégoire Sorlat), with the Mexican company Pimenta Film and The Veterans (ex-Mad River International; Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox) also in charge of international sales.

The filming, scheduled for last summer, had been delayed for several months (our “Confidential”, July 15). Written by Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain, the screenplay tells the story of Rita, a woman working for a large corporation in Mexico, and tasked with helping the dreaded cartel boss Juan "Little Hands" Del Monte get out of the business and disappear to become the woman he always dreamed of being. Emilia Pérez will be played by Spaniard Karla Sofía Gascón, a transgender actress.
