France 2 / Brut. : record audience for the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival 2023

The opening ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival broadcast on France 2 on Tuesday May 16 was watched by 2.2 million viewers for a 13% audience share between 7:20 p.m. and 8 p.m., indicated France Télévisions, official partner of the Festival.
The ceremony, presented by Chiara Mastroianni and during which Michael Douglas received an honorary Palme d'or, won 360,000 viewers in one year (+1 audience share point). This is a historic record in audience share for the ceremony which signs its best audience since at least 2004, welcomes the public group.
It reached its peak with 3.3 million viewers at 7:57 p.m., when this edition was officially opened by Catherine Deneuve. In total, the opening ceremony reached 5.6 million French people (cumulative audience on 60-second non-consecutive coverage), or 500,000 more than last year, according to figures from France Télévisions.
Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., i.e. the red carpet and the ceremony, the evening was watched by 1.99 million viewers for an audience share of 12.6%, up 220,000 compared to last year, which was already its best audience since 2011.
In addition, the ceremony attracted more than 12 million people around the world, including 6 million in France, via the special system deployed on all social platforms by the video media Brut., another official partner of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2022, the videos published by Brut. on the occasion of the opening recorded a total of 10.6 million views worldwide (including 5.2 million views in France).
